Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Nelson, Lancashire, £70,000–£90,000 DOE
Hours: Full-time preferred; hours and days negotiable. Daytime opening hours will be 8:00am–7:00pm, Monday to Saturday, with surgery shifts from 8:00am–4:00pm/5:00pm and consult shifts from 11:00am–7:00pm
Weekends: Saturday daytime cover required as part of the wider rota; exact rota not stated
Out-of-Hours: The practice aims to launch an OOH service within two months of opening, ideally covered by dedicated OOH staff, potentially on an on-call basis initially
The Opportunity
A new independent, non-profit veterinary practice in Nelson, Lancashire is looking for an experienced Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon to help shape and develop the clinical service as the practice grows. This is an opportunity to join a compassionate, affordable healthcare model supporting local pet owners and rescue organisations.
The Role
This is a senior clinical leadership role suited to an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident with a broad first-opinion caseload and comfortable supporting the development of a new service.
The practice is looking for a Clinical Lead who can help oversee clinical standards, support the wider veterinary team and contribute to the growth of the practice. The caseload is expected to include daily spays, neuters and dentals, along with regular lump removals and the potential to develop more advanced surgical services. Experience with exotics would be beneficial.
Consults are 20 minutes as standard, with 40 minutes allocated for euthanasia appointments. The practice also carries out a high dental caseload, currently around 2–3 dentals per day, with plans for a dedicated dental suite in early 2027.
The Practice
This is an independent, non-profit practice moving fully to Nelson due to increasing client demand and the need for greater capacity. The new practice is due to open towards the end of August and will provide affordable, compassionate veterinary care to pets and local rescue organisations.
Daytime services will run Monday to Saturday, with plans to introduce a full 24/7 service once the right team is in place. The practice expects strong out-of-hours demand due to its accessible pricing and community-focused model.
There are also plans to launch a mobile pet ambulance service by the end of the year, likely operated either on a rotating basis or by a designated vet and nurse partnership.
