An excellent opportunity is available for a General Practice Veterinary Surgeon to join a growing, independent-minded small animal practice in West Lancashire.
The role offers 30–40 hours per week, a salary of £45,000–£60,000 pro rata, depending on experience, and no OOH. The position includes a 1 in 4 weekend rota, with weekday flexibility to help create a sustainable working pattern.

About the Practice
This established practice opened in 2016 and has grown its client base from the ground up to more than 4,000 active clients, reflecting the strong relationships they have built within the local community.
The practice provides modern facilities and a comprehensive general practice service, including dental radiography and laparoscopy.
The close-knit team includes 4 Veterinary Surgeons, a Practice Manager, Head Nurse and experienced nursing team, Veterinary Care Assistants, Student Veterinary Nurses, a Client Care Manager and reception team.
The nursing team is highly experienced and supports vets through a range of chargeable clinics and Schedule 2 procedures, allowing Veterinary Surgeons to focus on clinical decision-making, case management and continuity of care.
The practice has a strong focus on maintaining a positive, inclusive working environment and low staff turnover. Colleagues are encouraged to speak openly, share ideas and contribute to both clinical and non-clinical improvements.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality first opinion veterinary care across a varied small animal caseload.
Conduct consultations, diagnostics and routine surgical procedures.
Develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans.
Maintain continuity of care across cases and build lasting client relationships.
Work collaboratively with the experienced veterinary and nursing teams.
Make effective use of the nursing team's clinical skills and knowledge.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients.
Manage workload and clinical priorities effectively.
Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.
Contribute ideas and feedback to support the continued development of the practice.
Participate in the 1 in 4 weekend rota, including sole-charge responsibility.
Continue developing clinical skills through CPD and further qualifications where appropriate.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys first opinion practice and values the relationships they build with clients, patients and colleagues.
They do not need to be a specialist surgeon. The practice has an experienced veterinary and nursing team and can provide support to help build confidence and develop clinical skills.
A positive, methodical and pragmatic approach is important, with the ability to manage time and priorities effectively without compromising personal wellbeing.
They are looking for someone who understands the importance of collaboration and respects the experience and knowledge of the nursing team.
Strong communication skills are essential, alongside a genuine interest in building long-term relationships with clients and their pets.
