About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse in Hull, East Yorkshire, to play a key role in the launch and development of a brand-new veterinary hospital opening in January 2027.
This full-time leadership position offers a 40-hour, 4-day working week, with a 2 in 9 weekend rota and time off in lieu, alongside funded CPD and an extensive benefits package.
The role combines hands-on clinical nursing with genuine leadership responsibility. The successful candidate will help establish nursing standards, develop the clinical team and contribute to the growth of the hospital's caseload.
This is particularly well suited to an experienced RVN who enjoys mentoring, clinical coaching and team development, while remaining actively involved in patient care.
About the Practice
The role is based within a brand-new veterinary hospital in Hull, designed to deliver comprehensive small animal care to clients across Hull and the wider East Yorkshire area.
The hospital will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing continuous inpatient care alongside emergency and first-opinion veterinary services.
A varied caseload is expected, creating excellent opportunities for the nursing team to develop their clinical capabilities and gain exposure to a broad range of medical and surgical cases.
There is a strong emphasis on accessible veterinary care, clinical development and creating a collaborative working environment where Veterinary Nurses are encouraged to utilise their skills.
Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality clinical nursing across all areas of the hospital.
Lead, support and develop the veterinary nursing team.
Mentor RVNs, Student Veterinary Nurses and other clinical colleagues.
Conduct regular one-to-one development meetings with team members.
Act as a Clinical Coach or work towards becoming one with appropriate support.
Encourage professional development and nursing best practice.
Support Veterinary Surgeons in delivering high standards of patient care.
Coordinate and develop nursing rotas.
Organise and lead regular team meetings.
Oversee health and safety compliance.
Support compliance with RCVS Practice Standards Scheme requirements.
Oversee stock management and appropriate inventory levels.
Help establish efficient clinical workflows within the new hospital.
Contribute to growing the hospital's caseload and developing its services.
Promote excellent patient welfare and client care.
Support the successful launch and continued development of the hospital.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who:
Holds current RCVS registration.
Has strong all-round small animal nursing capabilities.
Has previous nursing leadership or supervisory experience.
Is confident mentoring and developing colleagues.
Has experience conducting one-to-one meetings.
Is already a Clinical Coach or would like to become one.
Has experience with rota management or is keen to develop this skill.
Understands clinical governance and regulatory compliance.
Is comfortable overseeing health and safety requirements.
Has knowledge of RCVS Practice Standards.
Demonstrates strong organisational and communication skills.
Has good commercial awareness.
Is proactive and motivated to help develop a new veterinary hospital.
Enjoys combining hands-on nursing with leadership responsibilities.
