About the Role
An established veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Medical Director in Flushing, New York to lead a skilled veterinary team while continuing to practise high-quality small animal medicine.
This is a full-time leadership opportunity offering a base salary of $130,000–$190,000 DOE, comprehensive benefits, relocation assistance, medical autonomy, and the potential to pursue practice ownership through a partner track after one year of successful employment.
The position combines clinical medicine with leadership, mentoring, and practice development. It is designed for an accomplished veterinarian who is confident practising independently and ready to influence medical standards and team performance.
This position is not suitable for new graduates. Several years of small animal clinical experience are required.

Responsibilities
Provide high-quality medical and surgical care to small animal patients
Lead, support, and develop the veterinary team
Establish and maintain high clinical standards and medical protocols
Mentor veterinarians and support staff while promoting a positive workplace culture
Collaborate with practice management on operations, performance, and future growth
Build trusted relationships with clients through clear communication and education
Maintain appropriate medical records and regulatory standards
Help shape the long-term clinical direction of the practice
Candidate Profile
Candidates must hold a DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree from an accredited university and have several years of small animal clinical experience.
The successful candidate should be comfortable practising independently and demonstrate strong diagnostic, surgical, communication, and decision-making skills.
Leadership experience is advantageous, although experienced veterinarians ready to progress into their first formal Veterinary Medical Director role are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates must also have:
Active New York veterinary licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure
Current DEA licence or ability to obtain one
USDA accreditation or ability to obtain accreditation
Strong clinical leadership and mentoring capabilities
A commitment to high-quality small animal medicine and excellent client service
