About the Role
A veterinary practice is seeking an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join its dedicated out-of-hours team in Chorley, Lancashire.
This is a part-time night position offering a salary of £28,000 per year on an annualised contract. The rota provides an excellent work-life balance, with 7 nights on followed by 14 nights off, working 8:00pm–8:00am.
The position is initially offered as maternity cover, with the potential to become permanent.
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality overnight nursing care, monitoring hospitalised patients and supporting the Veterinary Surgeon with emergency and out-of-hours procedures.

About the Practice
The role is based within a 24-hour veterinary setting, providing continuous care for patients requiring overnight monitoring, treatment and clinical support.
Working overnight offers the opportunity to develop strong inpatient and emergency nursing skills while taking greater responsibility for patient monitoring and continuity of care.
The practice is located in Chorley, providing convenient access to surrounding Lancashire countryside as well as Manchester and Liverpool.
You will work alongside the overnight Veterinary Surgeon and wider clinical team, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, patient welfare and maintaining excellent clinical standards.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
Delivering high-quality out-of-hours nursing care
Monitoring and caring for hospitalised patients overnight
Supporting the Veterinary Surgeon with emergency cases and procedures
Undertaking Schedule 3 activities where appropriate
Assisting with consultations, surgery and clinical procedures
Managing patient admissions and discharges
Monitoring patients throughout treatment and recovery
Maintaining accurate clinical records
Providing clear and compassionate client communication
Maintaining high regulatory, operational and clinical standards
Supporting effective clinical handovers between night and day teams
Working collaboratively with veterinary and nursing colleagues
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for delivering excellent patient care.
You should be comfortable working during night shifts and capable of managing the additional responsibility associated with caring for hospitalised and out-of-hours patients.
Strong clinical judgement, organisation and communication skills will be important, alongside the ability to remain calm and prioritise effectively when dealing with emergency or changing clinical situations.
Previous experience in emergency, critical care or overnight nursing would be advantageous, although candidates with strong general nursing experience and an interest in developing their out-of-hours skills are encouraged to apply.
