About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for an Ophthalmology Specialist in Bristol, joining an established and growing specialist referral team within a modern, purpose-built hospital.
The role offers full-time or part-time flexibility, with 3 or 4 days per week considered, making it an attractive opportunity for a specialist seeking greater flexibility alongside a high-level clinical caseload.
The ideal candidate will hold a Diploma in Veterinary Ophthalmology (DipECVO or ACVO) and have experience training ophthalmology residents. ECVO board-eligible candidates will also be considered.

About the Practice
The practice is a modern specialist-led, referral-only veterinary hospital near Bristol, providing a comprehensive range of specialist services in a highly collaborative environment.
The ophthalmology service is supported by an experienced team comprising three senior ophthalmologists, an ECVO resident and two discipline-specific Registered Veterinary Nurses, with rotating interns providing additional support.
The service has its own dedicated consultation room and allocated theatre, delivering comprehensive ophthalmic care ranging from adnexal procedures through to advanced intraocular surgery.
They also maintain strong relationships with referring primary care practices, including a satellite ophthalmology service at additional centres on a monthly basis.
The wider hospital provides access to extensive specialist facilities, including MRI, CT, five theatres, ICU, dedicated feline facilities and multiple canine consultation rooms. The multidisciplinary environment enables close collaboration with specialists across anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry and maxillofacial surgery, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality specialist ophthalmology consultations and treatment.
Manage a varied and complex ophthalmology caseload.
Perform ophthalmic procedures ranging from adnexal surgery to advanced intraocular procedures.
Work collaboratively with other veterinary specialists and referral clinicians.
Provide clinical support and guidance to referring primary care practices.
Contribute to the satellite ophthalmology service where appropriate.
Support the development and training of ophthalmology residents.
Mentor rotating interns and contribute to their clinical education.
Work closely with discipline-specific Registered Veterinary Nurses and the wider support team.
Maintain excellent communication with referring Veterinary Surgeons and clients.
Contribute to the continued development of the ophthalmology service and wider hospital.
Maintain the highest standards of clinical care, professional practice and patient welfare.
Candidate Profile
They are seeking an experienced Ophthalmology Specialist with a strong interest in advanced referral medicine and collaborative working.
The ideal candidate will have:
DipECVO or ACVO qualification, ideally with relevant specialist experience.
ECVO board-eligible candidates will also be considered.
Experience in a specialist ophthalmology or referral environment.
Experience training or mentoring ophthalmology residents is highly desirable.
Strong clinical and surgical ophthalmology skills.
Experience managing complex ophthalmic cases.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care.
A genuine interest in teaching, mentoring and supporting developing clinicians.
A commitment to maintaining and advancing clinical standards.
The ability to build strong professional relationships with referring Veterinary Surgeons.
Compensation & Benefits
