Audit Assistant Manager – Birkenhead (Accountancy Practice Role)

The Opportunity
This Audit Assistant Manager role in Birkenhead offers the opportunity to take ownership of audit engagements from planning through to completion while supporting the development of junior team members.
You will work closely with audit managers and partners, ensuring high-quality delivery across a varied SME client portfolio, while playing a key role in maintaining strong client relationships.
This is an ideal role for someone looking to progress into a full Audit Manager position within a supportive and well-structured practice environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and supporting audit assignments from planning through to completion
Ensuring compliance with auditing standards and financial reporting requirements
Reviewing audit work prepared by junior team members
Supporting preparation of financial statements and audit deliverables
Acting as a key client contact during audit fieldwork
Supporting audit planning, budgeting, and assignment monitoring
Coaching and developing junior staff members
Identifying and resolving technical audit issues
Contributing to improvements in audit quality and processes
Working closely with managers and partners on complex audit assignments
Requirements
ACA / ACCA qualified or equivalent (or near qualification with strong exam progress)
Experience working in an audit role within an accountancy practice
Strong knowledge of auditing standards and financial reporting
Experience reviewing audit work and supporting junior team members
Strong client-facing and communication skills
Excellent organisational skills with ability to manage multiple assignments
Commercial awareness and proactive approach to audit delivery
