The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping activities across a varied client portfolio

  • Review and manage bookkeeping work including reconciliations, ledgers, and financial records

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of VAT returns and compliance requirements

  • Provide management information to support client decision-making

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, resolving queries and providing guidance

  • Support clients with cloud accounting software and digital processes

  • Train, mentor, and supervise junior bookkeeping staff

  • Implement and improve internal processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy

  • Liaise with the wider accounts and tax teams to ensure seamless service delivery

Requirements

  • Proven experience within a bookkeeping role in an accountancy practice

  • Strong technical knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and financial processes

  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff

  • Proficient in cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)

  • Strong IT skills including Excel

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability

  • Confident communicator with a client-focused approach

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Desirable Skills

  • AAT qualified or equivalent

  • Experience working with SME and owner-managed business clients

  • Exposure to process improvement or systems implementation

  • Experience delivering client training on bookkeeping systems
