The Opportunity – Chartered Accountant in Wrexham

A growing accountancy practice in Wrexham, North Wales is seeking a Chartered Accountant (ACA / ACCA) to join the accounts and tax team.

This role provides the chance to take on work from senior colleagues, develop your own client portfolio, and become the primary contact for a range of clients, including companies, charities, partnerships, and sole traders.

The position combines accounts preparation, tax compliance, advisory work, and staff mentoring, offering a broad and varied role for ambitious accountants.


Key Responsibilities

Client Portfolio Management

  • Manage a growing portfolio of clients transitioned from senior colleagues
  • Lead client meetings (in-person and virtual) to discuss accounts, tax, and business performance
  • Handle day-to-day client queries professionally, becoming a trusted point of contact
  • Support structured client handovers and build long-term relationships
  • Identify opportunities to add value and expand services

Accounts Preparation

  • Prepare statutory year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships, charities, and sole traders
  • Review work prepared by junior staff, providing clear guidance and feedback
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of accounts

Tax Compliance & Planning

  • Prepare and review corporation tax, personal tax, VAT, and CIS returns
  • Provide practical tax advice and planning opportunities to clients
  • Assist with HMRC enquiries and compliance checks

Bookkeeping & Cloud Accounting Support

  • Support clients with bookkeeping queries and cloud accounting systems (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
  • Assist with cloud accounting transitions, including client training
  • Help streamline digital processes and improve efficiency

Business Advisory

  • Prepare management accounts, budgets, cashflow forecasts, and financial reports
  • Offer commercial insights and practical recommendations based on client data
  • Contribute to the expansion of advisory services within the firm

Team Collaboration & Development

  • Mentor and train junior staff to develop technical skills and confidence
  • Participate in internal training sessions and CPD activities

Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualified, or near completion
  • Proven experience in accounts preparation, tax compliance, and advisory work
  • Strong client management and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and projects independently
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff
  • Proficient in Excel and accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage beneficial)
  • Self-motivated, organised, and detail-oriented
