About the Role
We’re representing a well-established and highly regarded independent accountancy and business advisory firm based in Edinburgh, known for delivering trusted accounting, advisory, and outsourced finance services to SMEs, owner-managed businesses, and individuals across Scotland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Outsourced Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper to join their expanding team. Key Responsibilities
Process invoices, expenses, and other financial transactions accurately and efficiently
Complete bank and control account reconciliations
Prepare VAT files and VAT returns, including month-end reconciliations
Support credit control processes for a portfolio of clients
Assist with online accounting software set-up and implementation
Liaise directly with clients and HMRC regarding bookkeeping and VAT queries
Maintain accurate filing systems and document management processes
Support departmental managers with ad-hoc client assignments
Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a proactive client service
Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting software and VAT regulations
Ideal Candidate Profile
Minimum 2 years’ experience within an accountancy practice or bookkeeping environment
Strong experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems
Good understanding of VAT processes and bookkeeping procedures
Excellent IT and software skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
Proactive, adaptable, and client-focused with strong attention to detail
