About the Role

We’re representing a well-established and highly regarded independent accountancy and business advisory firm based in Edinburgh, known for delivering trusted accounting, advisory, and outsourced finance services to SMEs, owner-managed businesses, and individuals across Scotland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Outsourced Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper to join their expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for a bookkeeping professional looking to develop their career within a supportive and collaborative environment focused on client service and digital accounting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process invoices, expenses, and other financial transactions accurately and efficiently

  • Complete bank and control account reconciliations

  • Prepare VAT files and VAT returns, including month-end reconciliations

  • Support credit control processes for a portfolio of clients

  • Assist with online accounting software set-up and implementation

  • Liaise directly with clients and HMRC regarding bookkeeping and VAT queries

  • Maintain accurate filing systems and document management processes

  • Support departmental managers with ad-hoc client assignments

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a proactive client service

  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting software and VAT regulations

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience within an accountancy practice or bookkeeping environment

  • Strong experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems

  • Good understanding of VAT processes and bookkeeping procedures

  • Excellent IT and software skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively

  • Proactive, adaptable, and client-focused with strong attention to detail
