About the Role
We’re representing a well-established and highly regarded independent accountancy firm based in Manchester. Known for delivering trusted tax and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of individuals, partnerships and trusts, the firm has built a reputation for quality, client care, and technical expertise.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Personal Tax Senior to join their expanding tax department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional looking to develop within a collaborative and supportive environment, with exposure to a wide range of complex personal tax matters and progression potential within the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare personal tax returns for a complex and varied portfolio of clients, including individuals, partnerships, and trusts.
Ensure compliance deadlines are met and all tax submissions are completed accurately and on time.
Manage client relationships and act as the main point of contact for day-to-day tax queries.
Handle HMRC correspondence and deal with enquiries efficiently and professionally.
Prepare Capital Gains Tax (CGT) returns and assist with related planning matters.
Review tax computations and returns prepared by junior staff, providing feedback and development support where appropriate.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a high level of service delivery.
Report directly to senior management and directors, ensuring workflow deadlines are met.
Contribute to process improvements and adherence to firm-wide compliance procedures.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in personal tax within an accountancy practice.
ACA / ACCA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
Strong understanding of personal tax compliance, including self-assessment, CGT, and partnership returns.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and tax software systems.
Excellent communication skills — both written and verbal — with a professional client-facing manner.
High attention to detail, strong organisational ability, and capable of managing multiple deadlines.
Proactive, reliable, and adaptable, with a positive and collaborative mindset.
Able to mentor and support junior team members.
Key Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of customer-contact and CRM systems for client record management.
Confident user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Strong understanding of the importance of customer service in client retention and development.
Ability to prioritise workloads effectively, maintaining high standards of accuracy and output.
Strong emotional intelligence and ability to manage both personal and team dynamics effectively.
Experience with complex tax scenarios such as R&D, groups, overseas, and CIS (desirable).
