About the Role
An established and growing accountancy practice is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Accountant / Client Manager to join its supportive and forward-thinking team. The firm provides a personal, commercially focused service to a diverse portfolio of SME and owner-managed businesses.
This role is ideally suited to a qualified accountant with strong UK practice experience who enjoys building long-term client relationships while delivering high-quality accounts, taxation and advisory services. You will take ownership of a varied client portfolio, acting as a trusted adviser and key point of contact.
Alongside managing client relationships and delivering compliance work, you will have the opportunity to support advisory projects, contribute to practice development and mentor junior members of the team. This is a genuine opportunity to develop your career within a growing practice.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a varied portfolio of SME clients, including limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
Act as the main point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships.
Prepare and review statutory accounts for a range of owner-managed businesses.
Prepare and review corporation tax returns and computations.
Prepare personal tax returns and identify potential tax planning opportunities.
Provide clients with practical advice across accounting, taxation and general business matters.
Manage client deadlines and workflow to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
Review work prepared by junior team members, providing technical guidance, feedback and mentoring.
Support Partners with advisory projects and wider practice development.
Identify opportunities to add value to existing client relationships and contribute to business growth.
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with relevant accounting and taxation legislation.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK accounting and tax requirements.
Utilise cloud accounting and practice software including QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero and Sage.
Work with TaxCalc or similar tax software where required.
Assist with the ongoing development and training of junior members of the team.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
ACCA or FMAAT qualified, or equivalent qualification.
Minimum of 5 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice.
Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients independently.
Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting and taxation.
Experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and corporation tax returns.
Experience preparing personal tax returns, with an understanding of tax planning opportunities.
Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
Confident in providing accounting, tax and general business advice to clients.
Experience reviewing work and mentoring junior members of staff.
Strong knowledge of cloud accounting software, including QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero and Sage.
Experience using TaxCalc would be advantageous.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
