Registered Veterinary Nurse – Gillingham, Kent
About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse in Gillingham, Kent, offering a salary of up to £34,000 depending on experience.
This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position within a supportive, purpose-built small animal practice where nurses are encouraged to make full use of their clinical skills.
The role includes 1 in 4 weekends, with no out-of-hours or overnight inpatient checks, providing a balanced working pattern alongside excellent opportunities for clinical development.
About the Practice
The practice is a modern, purpose-built small animal veterinary surgery committed to delivering high standards of clinical and patient care.
The close-knit team includes 3 Veterinary Surgeons, 2 Nurses, a Veterinary Care Assistant, Practice Manager and 6 Client Care Advisors, creating a collaborative environment with strong support across both clinical and client-facing functions.
The successful RVN will have the opportunity to work across a varied caseload and develop their nursing skills through anaesthesia, inpatient care, nurse consultations, diagnostic procedures and theatre work.
A dedicated Veterinary Care Assistant also provides support with theatre turnaround and patient preparation, helping nurses focus on delivering excellent patient care.
Responsibilities
Admit and discharge patients.
Perform comprehensive nursing assessments.
Monitor anaesthesia and patient recoveries.
Provide high-quality inpatient nursing care.
Run nurse consultations and clinics.
Take diagnostic radiographs.
Assist Veterinary Surgeons with surgical procedures.
Support diagnostic investigations and clinical procedures.
Prepare patients for surgery and other treatments.
Work alongside the Veterinary Care Assistant to maintain efficient theatre turnaround.
Communicate clearly with clients regarding patient care and aftercare.
Maintain accurate clinical records.
Promote high standards of animal welfare.
Contribute positively to the wider clinical team.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with solid general nursing experience and a genuine passion for patient care.
They will ideally:
Hold current RCVS registration.
Have experience within small animal practice.
Be confident across general veterinary nursing duties.
Have good anaesthesia and inpatient nursing skills.
Be comfortable conducting nurse consultations.
Have excellent communication and customer-service skills.
Be enthusiastic, approachable and compassionate.
Demonstrate a genuine interest in animal welfare.
Enjoy working collaboratively within a close-knit team.
Be keen to continue developing their clinical skills through CPD and further qualifications.
