About the Role
An excellent opportunity is available for a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, offering £27,000–£31,000 pro rata depending on experience.
This is a part-time weekend role working 8.5 hours every Saturday, with the potential to pick up additional hours on an ad hoc basis.
The position would suit a qualified or soon-to-be-qualified RVN looking for a supportive weekend role with genuine opportunities to develop clinical skills, take on additional responsibilities and progress their nursing career.
About the Practice
The practice is a light, spacious and air-conditioned standalone small animal veterinary surgery located in Harrogate, close to local amenities and green space.
The experienced team includes 4 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 RVNs, 2 Student Veterinary Nurses, a VCA and Practice Manager, alongside a dedicated clinical care team including a Mental Health First Aider.
The practice maintains high clinical standards and benefits from visiting specialists in:
Orthopaedics
Ophthalmology
Cardiology
Ultrasonography
The team has a strong focus on keeping cases in-house, with experience in soft tissue surgery and internal medicine, providing excellent opportunities for clinical learning and development.
Nurses are encouraged to use their skills fully, including undertaking appropriate Schedule 3 procedures, leading audits and protocols, and contributing to practice initiatives and accreditations.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality veterinary nursing care across a varied small animal caseload.
Support Veterinary Surgeons with consultations, diagnostics and procedures.
Monitor patients during anaesthesia and recovery.
Provide excellent inpatient care.
Undertake appropriate Schedule 3 procedures within competence.
Maintain accurate and thorough clinical records.
Support nurse-led initiatives and clinical audits.
Contribute to practice protocols and quality improvement.
Participate in clinical discussions and share ideas with colleagues.
Support client education and patient wellbeing.
Maintain high standards of infection control and patient safety.
Contribute positively to the inclusive and collaborative team culture.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a qualified or soon-to-be-qualified RVN who is passionate about veterinary nursing and keen to continue developing their skills.
They should be compassionate, detail-oriented and comfortable working collaboratively within a supportive clinical team.
The successful candidate will ideally:
Be RCVS registered or approaching qualification.
Demonstrate genuine compassion for patients, clients and colleagues.
Have excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
Be open to learning and developing through feedback and experience.
Be willing to contribute ideas to clinical discussions.
Have an interest in developing specialist nursing skills.
Be interested in leading or supporting nurse-led initiatives.
