About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a passionate and confident Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join a friendly and supportive first-opinion small animal practice in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The role can be offered on a full-time or part-time basis, providing flexibility alongside a varied nursing caseload and excellent opportunities to develop and utilise your clinical skills.

There is no out-of-hours or on-call requirement, helping support a positive work-life balance.

The successful RVN will have the opportunity to take an active role in patient care, including nurse clinics, blood sampling, catheter placement, radiography and anaesthetic monitoring, alongside a broad range of general nursing responsibilities.

About the Practice

The practice is a welcoming small animal veterinary practice located on a popular retail park in Salisbury, with convenient local amenities nearby.

The close-knit clinical team includes two permanent Veterinary Surgeons, creating an environment where the successful RVN will work closely with different clinicians and gain exposure to varied approaches and cases.

As a first-opinion practice, the caseload is varied, with busy and quieter periods providing a good balance throughout the working week.

The practice places a strong emphasis on empowering its nursing team, encouraging RVNs to make full use of their clinical skills and undertake appropriate Schedule 3 responsibilities within a supportive environment.

Salisbury also offers an excellent location for both work and lifestyle, with easy access to the New Forest, Stonehenge and the south coast, while London is just over an hour away by train.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality nursing care to small animal patients

  • Running and developing nurse clinics

  • Taking and processing blood samples

  • Placing intravenous catheters

  • Performing radiography and X-rays

  • Monitoring patients under anaesthesia

  • Supporting Veterinary Surgeons with medical and surgical procedures

  • Undertaking appropriate Schedule 3 procedures

  • Providing inpatient and outpatient nursing care

  • Communicating clearly and compassionately with clients

  • Maintaining accurate clinical records

  • Supporting high standards of patient welfare

  • Working collaboratively with Veterinary Surgeons and the wider practice team

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a confident and adaptable Registered Veterinary Nurse with solid general nursing experience.

They will:

  • Hold current RVN registration

  • Have previous experience in small animal general practice

  • Be confident across a broad range of nursing responsibilities

  • Have excellent client care and communication skills

  • Be friendly, enthusiastic and approachable

  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for animal welfare

  • Enjoy working collaboratively with different clinicians

  • Be comfortable working in a varied first-opinion environment

  • Be keen to utilise and develop their clinical nursing skills

  • Be enthusiastic about undertaking Schedule 3 responsibilities

Compensation & Benefits

The successful Veterinary Nurse will receive:

  • Salary up to £34,000, dependent on experience

  • Full-time or part-time hours

  • No OOH

  • No on-call requirement

  • Practice opening hours of Monday–Friday, 8:30am–7:00pm and Saturday, 9:00am–3:00pm
