About the Role

A modern urgent care veterinary practice in Kennesaw, Georgia is seeking a Full-Time Urgent Care Veterinarian to provide after-hours care for canine and feline patients.

The practice bridges the gap between traditional daytime general practice and overnight emergency medicine, treating non-life-threatening illnesses and minor injuries that require prompt veterinary attention.

This position offers flexible scheduling with swing/second shifts and an exclusively urgent care caseload. There are no routine wellness appointments and no abdominal surgeries, allowing veterinarians to focus on same-day medical cases and appropriate minor procedures.

Veterinarians work single-doctor shifts with strong technical support, providing clinical autonomy while maintaining access to veterinary collaboration, modern diagnostics, and personalized one-to-one mentorship.

About the Practice

The practice provides after-hours veterinary care for dogs and cats throughout Kennesaw and the greater Atlanta area, offering a convenient option for patients whose needs fall between routine general practice and emergency hospital treatment.

The urgent care caseload commonly includes:

  • Wound management

  • Ear infections

  • Vomiting and diarrhea

  • Minor injuries

  • Acute illnesses

  • End-of-life care and euthanasia

  • Other appropriate canine and feline urgent care presentations

The hospital is modern, paperless, and purpose-designed for urgent care medicine, supporting efficient workflows and rapid clinical decision-making.

Clinical resources include:

  • Digital radiography

  • Comprehensive in-house laboratory equipment

  • Cloud-based electronic medical records

  • Modern treatment facilities

  • Strong veterinary technician support

The practice follows a Fear Free approach and maintains a feline-friendly environment, with an emphasis on compassionate patient handling and reducing stress wherever possible.

Although veterinarians work single-doctor clinical shifts, they benefit from experienced technical support and access to wider veterinary collaboration and consultation resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality urgent veterinary care to canine and feline patients.

  • Assess and treat non-life-threatening acute illnesses and injuries.

  • Perform appropriate triage and identify patients requiring emergency referral.

  • Diagnose and manage common urgent presentations including vomiting, diarrhea, ear infections, and wounds.

  • Provide wound management and appropriate minor procedural care.

  • Utilize digital radiography and in-house laboratory diagnostics.

  • Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans.

  • Provide compassionate end-of-life care and euthanasia when required.

  • Manage a varied same-day urgent care caseload.

  • Perform appropriate minor procedures within the scope of the urgent care model.

  • Work confidently during single-doctor shifts with experienced technician support.

  • Apply Fear Free principles where clinically appropriate.

  • Communicate diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and follow-up requirements clearly with pet owners.

  • Collaborate with veterinary colleagues and leadership when additional consultation is required.

  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records.

  • Support the continued professional development of veterinary support staff.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should hold a DVM or VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school, or have successfully completed the appropriate ECFVG or PAVE veterinary equivalency pathway.

Applicants should possess, or be eligible to obtain, an active veterinary license in Georgia.

The ideal candidate will enjoy the pace and clinical variety associated with urgent care veterinary medicine while appreciating the focused caseload compared with a traditional emergency hospital.

This position could suit an experienced urgent care veterinarian or a general practice DVM interested in transitioning toward urgent and emergency veterinary medicine, with personalized mentorship available.
