About the Role
A veterinary specialty practice is seeking a Criticalist in Huntington, New York, to join a multidisciplinary referral team delivering advanced emergency and critical care.
The position offers a base salary of $200,000–$250,000 plus production, with additional compensation potentially including a sign-on bonus, relocation assistance and other incentives.
This role has no after-hours or on-call responsibilities, while access to a nearby 24/7 inpatient and emergency facility provides continuity of care for hospitalised patients.
The opportunity is suited to a DACVECC specialist or residency-trained veterinarian seeking a collaborative specialty environment with advanced facilities and significant clinical resources.
About the Practice
The practice is a stand-alone, state-of-the-art veterinary specialty centre providing advanced referral medicine to patients throughout Long Island.
A major facility expansion is planned for 2026, adding approximately 8,000 sq. ft. of treatment space, six additional examination rooms, another operating room, a dedicated CT room and upgraded in-house laboratory facilities.
The multidisciplinary team includes specialists across surgery, cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, rehabilitation, behaviour, integrative medicine and theriogenology, creating extensive opportunities for collaborative case management.
Advanced diagnostics, specialist expertise and access to 24/7 emergency and inpatient care support the management of complex and critically ill patients.
Located in Huntington, New York, the practice provides access to Long Island's North Shore, beaches, boating and outdoor recreation, alongside convenient connections to New York City and the wider Long Island region.
Responsibilities
Provide advanced emergency and critical care to complex veterinary patients
Evaluate and stabilise critically ill and injured animals
Develop comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans
Manage complex medical and emergency cases
Coordinate ongoing care for hospitalised patients
Utilise advanced diagnostic and monitoring technology
Collaborate with specialists across multiple veterinary disciplines
Provide specialist consultation on critical cases
Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
Work closely with veterinary technicians and clinical support teams
Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records
Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions
Maintain high standards of patient safety and clinical care
Support the continued development of the emergency and critical care service
Candidate Profile
Candidates should possess, or be eligible to obtain, New York State veterinary licensure.
Applicants should also be:
Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC); or
Residency-trained veterinarians practising exclusively in emergency and critical care
