A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Veterinary Medical Director to lead its clinical team in Valley Village, California.

Responsibilities

The Veterinary Medical Director will:

  • Provide high-quality clinical veterinary care while setting and maintaining medical standards across the practice.

  • Establish, review, and implement clinical protocols and veterinary best practices.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop veterinarians and other clinical team members.

  • Foster a positive, supportive, and accountable workplace culture.

  • Monitor clinical outcomes and identify opportunities to continuously improve patient care.

  • Provide constructive clinical feedback and encourage ongoing professional development.

  • Collaborate with practice management and wider operational leadership on strategic initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities for practice growth, improved efficiency, and enhanced clinical services.

  • Support decision-making relating to medical standards, team performance, and practice development.

  • Guide client communication standards and help maintain an exceptional client experience.

  • Provide leadership and guidance with complex clinical cases or client concerns.

  • Represent the veterinary team in appropriate professional and regulatory matters.

  • Promote a culture centred on compassionate medicine, teamwork, and continuous clinical improvement.

Candidate Profile

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent, together with a current California veterinary licence in good standing and appropriate DEA registration.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • 3–5 years of clinical veterinary experience preferred

  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or veterinary team development experience

  • Strong clinical knowledge across small animal veterinary medicine

  • Excellent leadership and people-development capabilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Sound clinical judgement and confident decision-making abilities

  • An understanding of veterinary practice operations and commercial performance
