About the Role
An established specialty veterinary hospital in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Oncologist to join its growing emergency and specialty team.
With a strong referral caseload and increasing demand for oncology services, this position offers an exciting opportunity to develop and shape a dedicated Oncology service while working alongside experienced specialists and highly trained support staff.
Both full-time and part-time candidates may be considered, offering additional flexibility for the right specialist.
About the Practice
The hospital provides advanced referral-level veterinary care within a modern, multidisciplinary environment designed to support complex medical cases.
The Oncology service is currently supported by the Internal Medicine team, giving the successful oncologist the opportunity to expand the service and establish a dedicated oncology offering.
The hospital features advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities, including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, electrocautery, and surgical monitoring equipment.
Dedicated veterinary technician support is available, alongside opportunities for close collaboration with specialists in Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology. The continued development of Emergency services will provide further multidisciplinary support for oncology patients.
The practice operates from a modern, approximately 10,000-square-foot specialty hospital conveniently located within the Birmingham metropolitan area.
Responsibilities
Provide advanced diagnostic, treatment, and ongoing management services for veterinary oncology patients.
Develop personalised treatment plans based on individual patient and client needs.
Manage referral oncology cases and communicate effectively with referring veterinarians.
Collaborate with Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Emergency, and other veterinary professionals on complex cases.
Work closely with dedicated veterinary technicians and support staff to provide exceptional patient care.
Help develop and grow the hospital's dedicated Oncology service.
Maintain comprehensive medical records and clear communication with pet owners.
Participate in continuing education and remain current with developments in veterinary oncology.
Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and clinically progressive hospital culture.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a board-certified Veterinary Oncologist or veterinarian who has completed oncology residency training and is committed to delivering exceptional specialist care.
Candidates should possess strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and an interest in collaborative multidisciplinary medicine.
