About the Role
A veterinary practice is seeking a Veterinary Ophthalmologist in Huntington, New York, to join an established multidisciplinary specialty team serving the greater Long Island area.
This is a full-time, onsite specialist position offering a base salary of $200,000–$250,000, plus a percentage of production and potential additional compensation including a sign-on bonus, stipend and other incentives.
The position offers no after-hours or on-call responsibilities, with 24/7 inpatient and emergency support available through an on-campus emergency hospital.
You will manage a varied ophthalmology caseload while working alongside an experienced team of veterinary specialists in a modern referral environment.
About the Practice
The practice is a standalone veterinary specialty centre providing advanced referral medicine to patients throughout Long Island.
The facility is undergoing significant expansion, adding 8,000 square feet of treatment space, an additional operating room, six examination rooms, a dedicated CT room and upgraded in-house laboratory facilities.
The multidisciplinary team includes specialists in advanced surgery, cardiology, internal medicine, integrative medicine, oncology, rehabilitation, behaviour and theriogenology, providing excellent opportunities for collaborative case management.
An on-campus 24/7 emergency and inpatient hospital provides continuous patient support without requiring the Ophthalmologist to undertake routine after-hours or on-call responsibilities.
Located in Huntington, New York, the practice provides convenient access to New York City and the Hamptons alongside Long Island's North Shore beaches, boating, vineyards and outdoor recreation.
Responsibilities
Provide specialist ophthalmology consultations
Diagnose and manage a broad range of ocular conditions
Develop comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans
Perform ophthalmic procedures and surgery within your specialist scope
Manage medical and surgical ophthalmology cases from consultation through follow-up
Utilise advanced diagnostic technology to support clinical decision-making
Collaborate with other veterinary specialists on complex cases
Coordinate care with emergency and inpatient veterinary teams
Communicate diagnoses, treatment options and prognoses clearly with clients
Develop strong relationships with referring veterinarians
Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records
Uphold high standards of clinical care and veterinary ethics
Contribute to a collaborative multidisciplinary specialist environment
Candidate Profile
Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, New York State veterinary licensure.
Applicants should be either a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (DACVO) or a residency-trained veterinarian whose practice is limited to ophthalmology.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
