About the Role

An excellent opportunity has become available for a Veterinary Surgeon in Barnstaple, North Devon, offering the chance to join a progressive small animal team in one of the UK's most attractive coastal and countryside locations.

This permanent Veterinary Surgeon position offers a salary of up to £55,000 DOE, plus a £5,000 joining bonus.

The role is ideally full-time at 40 hours per week across 4 days, although part-time and flexible applications will also be considered. There is a 1 in 6 Saturday rota, involving a 12-hour shift with TOIL provided, and no out-of-hours requirements.

About the Practice

This established small animal practice provides high-quality first opinion care within a supportive and progressive clinical environment.

The team includes Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses, Patient Care Assistants, and reception colleagues who work collaboratively and encourage knowledge sharing and continued development.

The practice benefits from an impressive range of modern equipment, including:

  • CT scanner

  • Dental X-ray

  • Endoscopy

  • Diathermy

  • Digital X-ray

  • Ultrasound

Veterinary Surgeons have the opportunity to work across three sites in the wider North Devon area, with the primary role based in Barnstaple.

The location provides an excellent lifestyle, with easy access to golden sandy beaches, rugged moorland, countryside, coastal walks, surfing, swimming, and locally sourced food.

The role is also commutable from Bideford, Great Torrington, South Molton, Westward Ho!, Ilfracombe, and surrounding areas of Devon and North Cornwall.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality first opinion veterinary care to small animal patients

  • Manage a varied medical and surgical caseload

  • Perform consultations, diagnostic investigations, and surgical procedures

  • Make effective use of advanced diagnostic equipment

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients

  • Work collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses and the wider clinical team

  • Share knowledge and contribute to the development of colleagues

  • Maintain high standards of clinical care and patient welfare

  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the practice

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a passionate and confident Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys working within a progressive, collaborative environment.

  • RCVS registration and experience in small animal practice

  • Confidence managing medical and surgical cases

  • Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills
