About the Role
A well-established small animal practice in Bishopbriggs, Scotland is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join their team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a flexible opportunity, available full-time, part-time, or on a customised schedule to suit your lifestyle.
The caseload primarily involves first opinion dogs and cats, with some rabbits and guinea pigs. Clinical work includes medical cases, dermatology, and surgical procedures such as neutering, mass removals, dentistry, and more. Candidates are encouraged to work up cases independently where comfortable, with access to local referral facilities for more complex cases.
About the Practice
The practice operates across two modern branches, both easily commutable from Glasgow city centre, offering the ideal mix of urban convenience and access to the Scottish countryside. The main branch has recently been refurbished and includes three consult rooms, a theatre, radiography, ultrasound, dental facilities, and separate cat and dog wards, while the secondary branch features a dedicated dental suite.
The team includes 16 vets, supported by 7 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 8 support staff, with a strong culture of continuous professional development. Team members are actively pursuing certificates in surgery, cardiology, and small animal medicine. The practice is also involved in local community initiatives, including school engagement and sports sponsorship.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality first opinion veterinary care for dogs, cats, and small mammals
Manage medical, surgical, and dental cases, including neutering and mass removals
Collaborate effectively with clinical staff and support team
Communicate confidently with clients, providing clear advice and guidance
Participate in a 1-in-4 Saturday rota (consultations only, 9am–1pm)
Work across both practice branches as required
Candidate Profile
Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with small animal experience
Comfortable managing a varied caseload independently
Strong communication skills with both staff and clients
Enthusiastic, adaptable, and collaborative team player
Interest in professional development and clinical progression
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Competitive, reflective of experience (ranging from £45,000 to £65,000)
Schedule: 40 hours per week over 4 days, flexible to suit lifestyle; no OOH/on-call duties
