About the Role
An excellent opportunity is available for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, progressive and supportive small animal practice in Caerphilly, South Wales.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, with some flexibility, a salary of up to £70,000 depending on experience, and no out-of-hours.
The role includes 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, 9:00am–1:00pm, offering a strong balance between clinical development and lifestyle. The practice is particularly well suited to a vet who wants to expand their surgical skills while working alongside an experienced clinical team.
About the Practice
This established small animal practice has served the Caerphilly community for more than 11 years and provides a welcoming, collaborative environment where colleagues are encouraged to learn and develop.
The team includes 3 Veterinary Surgeons, 4 RVNs, a Student Veterinary Nurse, a Practice Manager and a dedicated reception team.
The practice has a strong surgical focus, with exposure to advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, trauma and non-trauma procedures. There are excellent opportunities for a Veterinary Surgeon to develop their surgical capabilities through hands-on experience and clinical mentoring.
The modern practice features 4 spacious consulting rooms, a dedicated preparation area, fully equipped operating theatre and separate cat and dog wards.
Current diagnostic and surgical equipment includes digital radiography, dental X-ray, endoscopy, arthroscopy, Doppler ultrasound, ECG, in-house laboratory facilities, laser equipment and stem cell/PRP technology.
Further investment is planned in areas including dental imaging, portable digital X-ray, advanced ultrasonography and laparoscopic equipment.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality veterinary care across a varied small animal caseload.
Conduct routine consultations and preventative healthcare appointments.
Perform routine surgical procedures appropriate to experience.
Manage medical cases and develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans.
Gain exposure to advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures.
Develop skills in procedures including TPLO, arthroscopy, endoscopy and regenerative medicine.
Work collaboratively with experienced Veterinary Surgeons and RVNs.
Build strong and lasting relationships with clients and their pets.
Communicate clearly regarding diagnoses, treatment options and ongoing care.
Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.
Participate in CPD and pursue further qualifications where appropriate.
Contribute positively to the continued development of the practice.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a UK small animal practice or hospital.
They should be confident with routine consultations and surgery and have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
The practice would particularly suit a vet who wants to develop their clinical and surgical skills. An interest in advanced surgery, orthopaedics or diagnostic procedures would be advantageous, although a willingness to learn is equally important.
The successful candidate should be able to work independently when required while also enjoying the benefits of a supportive and collaborative team.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary up to £70,000, depending on experience
Full-time: 40 hours per week
Monday–Friday, 8:30am–6:00pm
1 in 3 Saturdays, 9:00am–1:00pm
No out-of-hours
5.6 weeks' holiday including bank holidays
Holiday increasing to 6.6 weeks after 2 years' service
