About the Role
A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its established and growing small animal team in Edinburgh, Midlothian.
The position offers a salary of up to £60,000 FTE depending on experience, with full-time, part-time and flexible working arrangements considered.
The role has been structured to provide a sustainable working pattern, with a predictable 3-week rolling rota, longer working days and more complete days away from the practice. There are no out-of-hours requirements and no sole charge.
Standard appointments are 25 minutes, with protected diary gaps for telephone calls, case management, administration and catching up on clinical work.

About the Practice
The practice is a busy and established small animal clinic with an experienced veterinary and nursing team and plans for significant expansion in 2027.
The expansion will provide additional space to grow the team and broaden the range of clinical services available, creating an opportunity for a new Veterinary Surgeon to contribute ideas and help shape future development.
The veterinary team brings experience across surgery, dentistry and diagnostic imaging, while skilled RVNs are actively involved in clinical care, including nurses with additional dentistry training.
Clinical collaboration is encouraged through regular veterinary meetings and ongoing case discussions. Typically, three Veterinary Surgeons work during weekdays and two at weekends, ensuring clinicians have colleagues available for support.
Careful diary management, experienced nursing support and protected administration time allow clinicians to work cases up thoroughly without unnecessary pressure.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
Delivering high-quality first-opinion small animal consultations
Investigating and managing medical cases
Performing routine surgical procedures
Developing appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans
Providing clear and compassionate client communication
Working collaboratively with Veterinary Surgeons and experienced RVNs
Participating in regular clinical meetings and case discussions
Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records
Contributing ideas towards new clinical services and practice development
Developing individual areas of clinical interest
Maintaining high standards of clinical governance and patient welfare
Supporting the continued growth and development of the practice
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Surgeon with previous general practice experience and strong all-round clinical skills.
You should be confident managing routine medical and surgical cases while enjoying a collaborative approach to veterinary medicine.
Strong communication skills, professionalism and teamwork are important, alongside a proactive approach to problem-solving and practice development.
Additional clinical interests or skills that could help broaden the services available would be welcomed, with certificate support available where appropriate.
This position would particularly suit an experienced clinician looking for a role with no sole charge, no OOH and longer consultation times, while also having the opportunity to contribute to the development of an expanding practice.
