About the Role

An excellent opportunity has become available for a Veterinary Surgeon in Halifax, West Yorkshire, offering the chance to join an established first opinion practice with a supportive team, varied caseload, and genuine commitment to clinical development.

This permanent Veterinary Surgeon role offers a salary of up to £75,000 per annum DOE, with full-time hours of 40 hours per week across 4 or 5 days.

Part-time applications will also be considered, offering flexibility for the right candidate. There are no routine out-of-hours requirements, supporting an excellent work-life balance.

About the Practice

This well-established first opinion small animal practice has a loyal and long-standing client base supported by a friendly, experienced, and collaborative clinical team.

The purpose-built facility provides an excellent environment for both routine and more complex cases, with:

  • Purpose-built clinical facilities

  • Access to wider hospital support when required

Veterinary Surgeons will enjoy a varied medical and surgical caseload, providing opportunities to develop and utilise a broad range of clinical skills.

The practice works closely with a nearby hospital that provides its own out-of-hours service. This means the role remains focused on first opinion veterinary care with no routine OOH commitment.

The supportive team environment also provides opportunities for Veterinary Surgeons interested in mentoring colleagues or developing future leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality first opinion veterinary care to small animal patients

  • Manage a varied medical and surgical caseload

  • Conduct consultations and diagnostic investigations

  • Perform routine surgical procedures

  • Develop appropriate treatment plans and discuss these clearly with clients

  • Build strong, long-lasting client relationships

  • Work collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses and the wider practice team

  • Share clinical knowledge and support colleagues where appropriate

  • Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care

  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the practice

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a confident and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys first opinion practice and working within a supportive team.

Applicants should have:

  • RCVS registration and experience in small animal practice

  • Confidence managing medical and surgical cases

  • Strong clinical and diagnostic decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and client care abilities

  • A commitment to ongoing professional development

  • A collaborative and team-focused approach

  • The ability to work with clinical autonomy and manage a varied caseload

An interest in mentoring colleagues or progressing into leadership would be welcomed, but is not essential.
