​Veterinary Surgeon – Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire

About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a highly skilled hospital and first-opinion practice team in Middlesbrough, with additional support provided to a nearby practice in Hartlepool.

The position offers up to £65,000 per annum depending on experience, with a 40-hour working week across 4 days. Part-time rotas can also be discussed.

There are no out-of-hours requirements, with a dedicated night team providing overnight care at the hospital. This allows clinicians to enjoy a strong work-life balance while gaining exposure to an interesting and varied caseload.

The role combines consultations, surgery and hospitalised patient care, with plenty of opportunity to develop specific clinical interests and advance professionally.

About the Practice

You will join a friendly and experienced team comprising 8 Veterinary Surgeons, 10 RVNs, 2 student nurses, 6 receptionists and 5 PCA support staff.

The hospital manages a diverse caseload, ranging from routine first-opinion work through to more advanced emergency cases. Clinicians are encouraged to develop their own interests and expand their clinical capabilities.

Facilities include digital X-ray, dental radiography, Doppler ultrasound, an in-house laboratory and multiparameter monitoring, alongside additional hospital equipment to support high-quality patient care.

The team places a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, collaboration and patient welfare, with colleagues encouraged to discuss cases and support one another across all aspects of veterinary medicine.

The role can include shifts across the Middlesbrough and Hartlepool sites, providing additional variety and flexibility.

Relocation packages and assistance with temporary accommodation may also be available for candidates moving to the area.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care to small animal patients.

• Conduct consultations, examinations and diagnostic investigations.

• Manage a varied medical and surgical caseload.

• Perform routine surgical procedures appropriate to experience.

• Assess and treat hospitalised patients.

• Manage emergency cases and provide appropriate clinical intervention.

• Utilise diagnostic equipment including digital X-ray and ultrasound.

• Develop individualised treatment and patient care plans.

• Communicate clearly with clients regarding diagnoses and treatment options.

• Work collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses and the wider support team.

• Participate in clinical discussions and case reviews.

• Develop specific clinical interests and areas of expertise.

• Support colleagues through mentoring and knowledge sharing where appropriate.

• Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with experience in small animal practice.

The role would suit a clinician who enjoys variety and is keen to work across consultations, surgery and hospitalised cases, while developing their own areas of clinical interest.
