Veterinary Surgeon – Nelson, Lancashire, £45,000–£80,000 DOE
Hours: Full-time or part-time considered. Daytime opening hours will be 8:00am–7:00pm, Monday to Saturday, with surgery shifts from 8:00am–4:00pm/5:00pm and consult shifts from 11:00am–7:00pm
Weekends: Saturday daytime cover required as part of the wider rota; exact rota not stated
Out-of-Hours: The practice aims to launch OOH within two months of opening, ideally covered by dedicated OOH staff, potentially on an on-call basis initially
The Opportunity
A new independent, non-profit veterinary practice in Nelson, Lancashire is looking for experienced Veterinary Surgeons to join its growing team. This is an opportunity to be part of a compassionate, community-focused practice offering affordable healthcare to pet owners and local rescue organisations.
The Role
This role would suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with at least 5 years’ experience who is confident with a varied first-opinion caseload and comfortable with a wide range of surgical cases.
The practice carries out spays, neuters and dentals daily, along with regular lump removals, and hopes to offer more advanced surgeries as the service develops. Experience with exotics would be a bonus.
The role will involve both consult and surgery shifts, with standard consults set at 20 minutes and euthanasia consults at 40 minutes. The practice also carries out a strong dental caseload, currently around 2–3 dentals per day, with a dedicated dental suite planned for early 2027.
The Practice
This is an independent, non-profit practice moving fully to Nelson due to client demand and the need for more space and capacity. The new site is due to open towards the end of August.
The practice will provide affordable, compassionate care to pets and local rescue organisations, with daytime services running Monday to Saturday. It aims to launch a full out-of-hours service within two months of opening, subject to finding the right team. Due to the accessible pricing model, the practice expects out-of-hours demand to be higher than in some other settings.
There are also plans to launch a mobile pet ambulance service by the end of the year, which may be operated on a rotating basis or by a designated vet and nurse partnership.
