An exciting opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, joining a modern, purpose-built veterinary hospital with advanced facilities and a strong focus on clinical development.
The role offers up to £75,000 FTE, dependent on experience, with full-time, part-time and flexible working options available. Permanent and fixed-term contracts can also be considered.
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will manage a varied first opinion caseload alongside an experienced team, with the opportunity to develop their clinical skills and, if desired, integrate into the hospital's overnight service with time off in lieu (TOIL).
About the Practice
The practice is a modern, purpose-built small animal veterinary hospital in North Shields, which opened in 2024 and provides an excellent environment for high-quality first opinion care.
The hospital benefits from advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT, alongside 24-hour patient care with dedicated overnight Veterinary Surgeon and nursing provision.
The team manages a busy and varied caseload and benefits from access to specialist advice through telemedicine, as well as wider clinical and professional development opportunities.
They place a strong emphasis on developing not only clinical skills but also self-leadership, teamwork, wellbeing and resilience, creating a forward-thinking environment for Veterinary Surgeons at different stages of their careers.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality first opinion veterinary care across a varied small animal caseload.
Manage medical and surgical cases with an appropriate level of clinical autonomy.
Conduct thorough examinations and diagnostic investigations.
Develop appropriate treatment plans and communicate these clearly to clients.
Perform surgical procedures according to experience and clinical competence.
Work collaboratively with experienced Veterinary Surgeons, nurses and the wider support team.
Utilise specialist advice and telemedicine support where appropriate.
Support colleagues through knowledge sharing and clinical discussion.
Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.
Contribute to the ongoing development of clinical standards within the hospital.
Participate in the overnight service if desired, with TOIL arrangements available.
Candidate Profile
They are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who is passionate about high-quality patient care and enjoys working within a collaborative, progressive clinical environment.

Open to participating in the overnight service, although this is not essential.
