About the Role
An excellent opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a supportive first-opinion small animal team in Plymouth, Devon.
This is a permanent, full-time or part-time position with flexible hours available for the right candidate. The role offers the opportunity to work a 4-day week, supporting a strong work-life balance.
The position provides a varied mix of consultations and surgery, with a salary of up to £60,000 FTE depending on experience.
The role is split between a main hospital and nearby branch, with no sole-charge requirement, ensuring clinical support is always available.
About the Practice
The practice is a well-equipped small animal hospital supported by a passionate team of Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs, PCAs and receptionists.
The team has created a friendly, collaborative environment where clinicians are encouraged to discuss cases, share ideas and support one another.
The practice has significant clinical expertise across the team, including advanced practitioners in small animal surgery, orthopaedics and dentistry, alongside certificate holders and clinicians developing further expertise in emergency and critical care and diagnostic imaging.
They are also an RCVS Approved Graduate Development Practice, supporting structured development for veterinary graduates and ongoing training opportunities for veterinary nursing colleagues.
The practice has invested in modern equipment and facilities to provide a high-quality clinical environment for both patients and the veterinary team.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care to small animal patients.
Manage a varied caseload across consultations, diagnostics, medicine and surgery.
Perform clinical examinations and diagnostic investigations.
Develop appropriate treatment and patient care plans.
Work collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses and the wider support team.
Participate in the 2 in 9 Saturday morning rota.
Contribute to clinical discussions and the sharing of best practice.
Support colleagues through knowledge sharing and mentoring where appropriate.
Maintain high standards of patient care, client communication and clinical governance.
Continue developing clinical skills through CPD, training and case collaboration.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with experience in small animal practice.
They should be confident managing a varied clinical caseload and comfortable undertaking both medical and surgical work.
The position would suit a Veterinary Surgeon who values clinical autonomy, collaborative working and ongoing professional development.
