About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a supportive first-opinion small animal team in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

This is a permanent, full-time position offering a salary of up to £65,000 per annum depending on experience.

About the Practice

The role is based within a well-established small animal veterinary group supported by a passionate team of Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses, PCAs and receptionists.

The team places strong emphasis on clinical excellence, collaboration and continuous professional development.

Regular veterinary team meetings, clinical case discussions, in-house practical training and whole-practice meetings provide opportunities to share knowledge, develop skills and improve clinical standards.

The wider practice environment encourages clinicians to contribute ideas, support colleagues and take an active role in the ongoing development of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care to small animal patients.

  • Manage a varied medical and surgical caseload.

  • Perform clinical examinations and diagnostic investigations.

  • Develop appropriate treatment and patient care plans.

  • Undertake surgery appropriate to clinical experience.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with clients and their pets.

  • Work collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses and the wider support team.

  • Participate in clinical discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.

  • Support less experienced colleagues through mentoring and guidance.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of clinical standards.

  • Maintain high standards of patient welfare and professional practice.

  • Engage with ongoing CPD, training and professional development opportunities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with experience in small animal practice.

They should be confident managing a varied first-opinion caseload and comfortable handling both medical and surgical cases.
