About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon Team Leader to join a modern and well-equipped small animal veterinary hospital in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, offering a salary of £61,000 - £68,000 including allowances. Part-time and flexible working arrangements can also be considered.
Combining clinical work with leadership responsibilities, the role includes one protected non-clinical day each week dedicated to developing the veterinary team, maintaining clinical standards and driving service improvements.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with part-time and flexible working considered
Schedule: Shifts within 8:30am–6:00pm, plus approximately 1 in 7 weekends and bank holidays
Leadership time: One protected non-clinical day per week

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
Holding responsibility for clinical governance within the hospital
Leading and developing the Veterinary Surgeon team
Delivering high-quality medical and surgical care to small animal patients
Maintaining and continually improving clinical standards
Providing coaching, mentoring and professional support to veterinary colleagues
Managing recruitment and selection within the veterinary team
Supporting individual performance and career development
Leading by example across clinical practice
Identifying and implementing service improvement initiatives
Encouraging case discussion, knowledge-sharing and collaborative working
Working closely with the wider hospital leadership team
Maintaining accurate clinical records and professional standards
Participating in the weekend and bank holiday rota
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with strong clinical capabilities and an interest in developing people and veterinary services.
Applications are welcomed from experienced veterinary leaders as well as Veterinary Surgeons who have experience mentoring, coaching or developing colleagues and are ready to progress into their first formal leadership position.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside the ability to motivate colleagues, manage challenging situations and create a supportive environment in which individuals can develop.
The successful candidate should also be comfortable balancing clinical responsibilities with leadership, clinical governance and service development.
Training and development will be provided to support progression within the leadership role.
