Responsibilities
Perform advanced soft tissue and surgical procedures
Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations and surgical consultations
Develop and implement diagnostic and treatment plans
Collaborate with emergency, urgent care, and general practice veterinarians on case management
Interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory findings
Communicate surgical recommendations, treatment options, and postoperative care plans to clients
Monitor surgical patients throughout treatment and recovery
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
Prescribe medications and ensure compliance with controlled substance regulations
Participate in case discussions, rounds, and clinical training initiatives
Support hospital protocols and contribute to continuous improvement in patient care standards
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school
Completion of a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency care
Completion of a three-year AVMA-approved surgical residency program
Active Massachusetts veterinary license, or eligibility to obtain licensure
DEA registration or ability to obtain and maintain registration
Strong surgical, diagnostic, and clinical decision-making skills
Excellent communication and client relationship-building abilities
Commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality patient care
Ability to work effectively within a collaborative multidisciplinary team
Preferred qualifications include:
Board certification or board-eligible status in veterinary surgery
Two to five years of post-residency clinical experience
Experience working within referral, specialty, or emergency hospital settings
