    $115,000–$155,000 base, often plus production bonus (typically 18–22% ProSal)

  • Emergency Veterinarian:

    $145,000–$235,000 — overnight at the higher end

  • Board-Certified Specialist:

    $170,000–$290,000 depending on specialty and case volume

  • Medical Director:

    $170,000–$230,000 plus bonuses or equity in some groups

  • Equine / mixed / food-animal veterinarian:

    $90,000–$155,000 plus production

Sign-on bonuses of $15,000–$45,000 and relocation packages are common, particularly for rural mixed-practice roles and ER coverage in growing suburban markets.

Indiana licensing for veterinarians

To practice in Indiana you need to be licensed by theIndiana State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners(under the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency). The standard route is:

  • Graduate from an AVMA COE-accredited DVM/VMD program (foreign graduates need ECFVG or PAVE certification)

  • Pass the NAVLE (North American Veterinary Licensing Examination)

  • Pass the Indiana state jurisprudence exam — covers state laws and rules

  • Renew biennially — Indiana requires 40 hours of continuing education per renewal cycle
