Why veterinarians choose Minnesota

  • Consistently ranked among the top US states for quality of life, healthcare, and education.

  • Home to the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in St. Paul — a top-tier AVMA-accredited school with a strong referral and continuing education network.

  • Rochester and the Mayo Clinic region anchor one of the nation's leading medical and professional communities.

  • Diverse caseloads — companion animal medicine across the Twin Cities metro plus dairy, mixed, and large-animal practice throughout Greater Minnesota, a leading US dairy state.

  • Practice variety — independent clinics, corporate groups, emergency hospitals, and specialty centers.

  • A four-season outdoor lifestyle in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, with strong work-life balance and affordable living outside the metro.

Minnesota licensing for veterinarians

To practice in Minnesota, veterinarians must be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine (MBVM). The standard route includes:

  • Graduate from an AVMA-accredited DVM/VMD program or complete ECFVG/PAVE certification.

  • Pass the NAVLE within five attempts over a five-year period.

  • Pass the Minnesota Jurisprudence Examination — a 50-question, open-book exam on state laws and rules (90% passing score).

  • Complete a criminal background check.

  • Renew every two years with continuing education requirements.

If you're licensed in another state and considering relocation, our consultants can guide you through the endorsement process and timing requirements.

How we work

For candidates: send your CV through our website or call our team. Your conversation is confidential — we won't put you forward for any role without your sign-off. We'll only present opportunities that match your clinical interests, schedule, salary expectations, and preferred location.

For practices and hospitals: tell us about the role, your team, and the type of veterinarian who will thrive in your environment. We handle sourcing, screening, and shortlisting so you only meet qualified candidates worth your time.
