Accountant – St Helens | Full-Time 

Location: St Helens, Merseyside
Hours: Full-time
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000
Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare year-end accounts for clients including complex limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders

  • Prepare corporation tax computations and returns for manager review

  • Conduct deferred tax calculations and reconciliations

  • Prepare VAT returns and demonstrate knowledge of Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements

  • Prepare periodic management accounts for reporting purposes

  • Ensure company accounts and corporation tax returns meet HMRC and Companies House deadlines

  • Handle client queries via phone, email, and in-person meetings

  • Manage your own small portfolio of clients, under the oversight of your line manager

Key Requirements

  • Fully or part-qualified with appropriate accounting qualification, or Qualified By Experience (QBE) with at least 5 years’ practice experience

  • Proven ability to manage your own client portfolio and communicate effectively with clients

  • Capable of producing high-quality accounts for senior manager or partner review

  • Knowledge of auditing techniques and ability to complete full audit files from planning to completion

  • Desirable: experience with consolidation accounting

  • Up to date with accounting training and CPD requirements

  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Excel

  • Knowledge of CCH and Sage accountancy software preferred

  • Ability to support and mentor junior staff

  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and excellent communication
