Practice Accountant – Scunthorpe (North Lincolnshire)
Location: Scunthorpe (with 1 day per week in Hull)

About the Firm
An established and growing accountancy practice offering cloud-based bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, financial accounts, and management reporting services to a diverse SME client base.
Continued client growth has created an opportunity for an experienced Accountant to join the team and take ownership of a small portfolio.
Hybrid working available: 1 day per week in the Hull office, remaining days in Scunthorpe with the option of 1 day from home.
Role Overview
Manage a varied portfolio with a focus on management reporting and cloud-based workflows.
Deliver regular bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and reporting services on daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly cycles depending on client needs.
Prepare annual financial accounts and director self-assessment tax returns.
Work autonomously while receiving support and oversight from the Director.
Complete additional accounts and personal tax work during quieter periods to support the wider practice.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping and bank reconciliations
Preparation and submission of VAT returns
Payroll processing across various client industries
Management accounts production and reporting packs
Year-end financial accounts for limited companies
Director tax returns and related compliance
Manage client deadlines, workflow, and communication
Provide ad-hoc accounts and tax support across the practice
Ideal Candidate Profile
5+ years’ overall accountancy experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience within an accountancy practice
Strong working knowledge of Xero and Sage Cloud
Confident managing own workload and meeting deadlines independently
Strong understanding of accounting processes, compliance, and reporting
Effective communicator with strong organisational skills
Willing and able to travel to Hull one day per week (typically Mondays)
Working Hours & Flexibility
Full-time or part-time (minimum 28 hours)
Office hours between 8am–6pm with flexibility across the day
Hybrid working:
1 day per week in the Hull office
1 homeworking day available per week
Remainder in the Scunthorpe office
