About the Role

We’re representing a respected and growing accountancy and business advisory firm with a strong presence across the North of England and Scotland. Their Northallerton office is looking to appoint an Accounting Assistant (Business Services Assistant) to support the preparation of accounts, VAT returns, and management accounts for a varied client base. This role is an excellent opportunity for an AAT qualified or part-qualified accountant—or someone qualified by experience—to progress within a supportive practice environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare draft financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies for manager review

  • Complete draft business tax computations for review

  • Prepare VAT returns and bookkeeping assignments using a range of software

  • Assist with management accounts preparation and filing of financial statements and corporate tax returns

  • Raise appropriate queries with managers to ensure accuracy and compliance

  • Contribute to the smooth running of the Business Services team in Northallerton

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • AAT qualified (or currently studying towards Level 4) | Qualified by Experience candidates will also be considered

  • Previous experience in an accountancy practice environment essential

  • Confident preparing accounts, VAT returns, and management accounts

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise workloads under pressure

  • A dedicated team player who supports colleagues and works well in a fast-paced environment

  • Full UK driving licence desirable but not essential

  • Comfortable using modern accounting software and Excel
