About the Role
We’re representing a forward-looking and relationship-based accountancy firm with a strong presence across Dundee, Forfar, Montrose, Brechin, Perth, and Crieff. MMG Chartered Accountants are expanding their team and now seeking an experienced Accounts Advisor to prepare financial accounts and tax returns for a portfolio of clients. You’ll work with a mix of desktop and cloud-based accounting systems, supporting clients across diverse sectors. Key Responsibilities
Prepare financial accounts and tax returns for clients from prime records, spreadsheets, and accounting software
Analyse client records and liaise with clients to clarify missing or unclear information
Ensure accurate allocation of financial transactions within client charts of accounts
Record and reconcile accounting adjustments (accruals, prepayments, depreciation, tax provisions)
Apply UK GAAP standards for disclosure and presentation in statutory accounts
Reconcile all control accounts and maintain fixed asset registers
Identify tax add-backs, capital items, and personal expenditure adjustments
Prepare year-end working paper files, ensuring completeness and accuracy
Perform analytical reviews and highlight potential tax savings or business improvements
Support audit fieldwork testing under the guidance of senior staff
Prepare business and personal tax computations for review
Maintain and update client notes, schedules, and profiles
Support colleagues with queries, provide cover where needed, and share technical knowledge
Manage client relationships through effective communication and proactive service
Ideal Candidate Profile
AAT qualified, part-qualified ACCA/ACA, or qualified by experience
Proven background in an accountancy practice preparing accounts and tax returns
Knowledge of UK GAAP and experience with both desktop and cloud-based accounting software
Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical and reconciliation skills
Confident communicator with a client-focused approach
Positive “can-do” attitude, adaptable to change, and committed to continuous development
Strong team player with the ability to support and collaborate with colleagues
