A local accountancy practice is seeking an Accounts Assistant with current practice experience.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with a variety of clients and is looking to develop their skills in accounts preparation, bookkeeping, and VAT compliance within a professional practice environment.
The Role of Accounts Assistant
As an Accounts Assistant, you will support the Accountants with their portfolio of clients across a range of industries, ensuring accurate financial records and high-quality service delivery.
Key responsibilities will include:

Assisting with bookkeeping and accounts preparation for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.

Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with HMRC and Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.

Reconciling bank accounts, control accounts, and supplier statements.

Supporting the preparation of management accounts and year-end working papers.

Maintaining accurate records using cloud-based software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.

Liaising directly with clients to gather information and resolve queries.

Assisting with CIS returns and supporting payroll where required.

Collaborating with senior accountants to ensure deadlines are met and compliance maintained.
About You
They’re looking for someone who is proactive, organised, and passionate about working in a professional practice environment.
You will ideally have:

AAT qualification (level 3 or above)

1 to 3 years of experience in a UK accountancy practice (essential)

Solid understanding of VAT, bookkeeping, and CIS regulations
-
Confidence using Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
-
Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
-
The ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team
