About the Role

We’re representing a well-established and growing independent accountancy firm based in Edinburgh, known for its strong client relationships and people-first culture. Due to continued growth within their Business Support Services team, they are seeking an Accounts Supervisor to manage a varied SME client portfolio while supporting and developing junior team members. This is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified accountant looking to step into a supervisory, client-facing role with long-term progression.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a small portfolio of SME clients, delivering a proactive and client-focused service.

  • Maintain regular client contact, acting as a trusted day-to-day advisor.

  • Prepare statutory accounts for Limited Companies, LLPs, partnerships, and sole traders.

  • Prepare management accounts and draft personal and corporation tax computations.

  • Review work prepared by colleagues and students, providing constructive feedback.

  • Train, supervise, and support junior team members and trainees.

  • Assist Assistant Managers with ad hoc client and departmental tasks.

  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting standards and tax legislation.

  • Communicate effectively with clients and HMRC, both orally and in writing.

(Aim: clear supervisory responsibility combined with strong hands-on technical delivery.)


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • ACA / ACCA / ICAS / ICAEW qualified with 1–2 years post-qualification experience in practice.

  • Strong experience preparing FRS 102 and FRS 102 1A accounts.

  • Confident working directly with clients across a range of sectors.

  • High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Ability to manage workload independently while meeting deadlines and budgets.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong IT skills with the ability to retain and apply technical knowledge.
