A growing accountancy practice in Wakefield is recruiting an experienced Business Services Manager to oversee a diverse portfolio of clients and lead a small team of bookkeepers and trainee accountants. This is a senior role for a qualified or experienced accountant who wants to combine client management, team leadership, and business development within a supportive, forward-thinking practice.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring high levels of engagement and service

  • Negotiate fees constructively and manage commercial client relationships

  • Identify additional client needs and present practical solutions

  • Manage client expectations and deliver work via face-to-face, phone, or video call

  • Achieve agreed billing targets and ensure compliance matters are addressed

Staff Management

  • Lead and mentor a team, ensuring technical excellence and effective workload allocation

  • Support trainee accountants to meet apprenticeship and exam requirements

  • Monitor team utilisation and performance, maintaining high quality standards

Job & Workflow Management

  • Ensure work is started on time and completed within deadlines

  • Monitor time costs, workflow progress, and escalations to maintain client service standards

  • Drive process efficiency and identify opportunities to leverage technology and data analytics

Experience and Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience

  • Proven experience as a Business Services / Client Manager in practice

  • Strong technical knowledge in accounting and tax, applied confidently to client engagements

  • Demonstrable experience in people management and team leadership

  • Excellent client service focus, organisational skills, and commercial awareness

  • Current driving licence with own vehicle for client site visits
