About the Role
We’re representing a highly regarded independent firm of Chartered Accountants with a strong presence across Yorkshire. The firm provides a full range of accountancy, taxation, and business advisory services to a diverse portfolio of SME and owner-managed clients. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Client Manager to join their York office. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive professional looking to manage a varied client base, lead a team, and play a key role in delivering high-quality advisory and compliance services.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring all compliance reporting deadlines and deliverables are met
Provide strategic and commercial advice to clients, supporting them in achieving their business objectives
Lead the preparation of accounts and tax computations for complex assignments in line with internal procedures
Conduct meetings with clients to review financial statements, discuss tax planning opportunities, and present recommendations
Identify areas to enhance clients’ accounting systems, record-keeping, and financial processes
Supervise, support, and develop junior team members, providing clear guidance and feedback
Liaise with HMRC, banks, and external stakeholders as required
Promote and cross-sell the firm’s services, identifying opportunities to add value and expand client relationships
Review all accounts, working papers, and correspondence to ensure accuracy, compliance, and professionalism
Oversee workload planning and scheduling to ensure client deadlines are met efficiently
Maintain accurate client data within practice management systems and monitor progress against KPIs
Support billing, fee recovery, and debtor management, ensuring profitability across the portfolio
Drive improvements in processes, systems, and workflows to enhance client service delivery
Uphold firm values, fostering a collaborative, client-focused culture and maintaining strict confidentiality
Ideal Candidate Profile
ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with experience managing a client portfolio within practice
Strong technical understanding of UK GAAP, tax compliance, and business advisory principles
Confident using cloud-based and desktop accounting software including Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, and Iris (training provided where required)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong client service mindset
High attention to detail, analytical ability, and ability to prioritise effectively
Commercially aware, proactive, and capable of identifying opportunities for growth and improvement
Leadership experience with a track record of developing junior staff and managing teams
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
