Payroll Administrator / Manager – Hull

Salary: £28,000 – £38,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

Lead and manage payroll operations and contribute to broader accounting support across client portfolios
Key Responsibilities

Process payrolls (weekly, monthly, and other frequencies) for multiple clients, ensuring timeliness and accuracy

Oversee payroll compliance (RTI, auto-enrolment, statutory payments, pension schemes, NIC, etc.)

Respond to payroll queries from clients and staff, ensuring excellent client service
-
Reconcile payroll liabilities (PAYE, NIC, pensions, etc.) and ensure correct remittances
-
Prepare reports, payslips, journals, and summaries for integration into client accounting systems

Manage and supervise junior payroll staff or payroll assistants (if applicable)

Stay current with payroll legislation, HMRC changes, and best practices, and update colleagues/clients accordingly

Support integration of payroll with accounting and HR systems, recommending software/process improvements

Assist with year-end payroll tasks, P60s, P11Ds, and liaise with external auditors when needed
Ideal Candidate Profile

Payroll qualification (e.g. CIPP) or equivalent demonstrable experience

Proven experience in payroll roles within accountancy or practice environment

Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, pension auto-enrolment, and RTI
-
Experience using payroll software and connecting with accounting systems

Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills

Good communicator with a client-focused attitude

Able to lead, supervise, and mentor junior staff (for Manager-level)

Adaptable, proactive, and committed to continuous professional development
