Payroll Assistant – Liverpool | Salary £25,000–£27,000


Salary: £25,000–£27,000 (dependent on experience)
Hours: 35 per week, 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday
Location: Liverpool Office
Annual Leave: 20 days plus bank holidays

Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly and monthly payrolls for multiple clients across various sectors

  • Maintain payroll records including new starters, leavers, and contractual changes

  • Calculate statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), holiday pay, and pension contributions

  • Submit Real Time Information (RTI) to HMRC and ensure PAYE/NIC compliance

  • Prepare and distribute payslips, P45s, P60s, and other payroll documentation

  • Respond to payroll queries from clients and internal colleagues professionally

  • Assist the Payroll Manager with reporting, compliance tasks, and ad hoc projects

  • Support auto-enrolment and pension administration

  • Contribute to year-end payroll processes and meet deadlines

  • Perform general administrative duties and stay updated on UK payroll legislation


Essential Skills & Experience

  • 1–2 years’ experience in a payroll bureau or multi-client payroll environment

  • Knowledge of statutory and legislative payroll regulations

  • Proficient in payroll software (e.g., BrightPay) and Microsoft Excel

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

  • Professional communication skills with a client-focused approach

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
