Personal Tax Assistant – Leeds

Location: Leeds
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week, flexible around office hours 8:30am – 5:30pm)
Salary: £22,000 - £28,000

Role Overview

The Personal Tax Assistant will manage a portfolio of personal tax clients, ensuring accurate and efficient compliance work. This includes preparing and reviewing personal tax computations and returns, supporting directors in tax planning advice, and contributing to servicing complex clients. This role is ideal for someone with strong Personal Tax experience in a practice environment who enjoys variety and client-facing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse personal tax client portfolio as the primary point of contact, including:

    • Director/shareholders, sole traders, partnerships, property owners with rental income, doctors, dentists, and clients with various investments

  • Review financial documents to ensure accuracy for self-assessment returns

  • Prepare, review, and submit personal tax returns

  • Assist with compliance work, remuneration/dividend planning, exit strategies, and business structuring, identifying tax planning opportunities

  • Provide guidance, training, and support to junior staff

  • Build strong client relationships and proactively handle queries

  • Attend occasional client meetings or calls

  • Undertake ad-hoc duties related to client queries

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Ability to self-manage workload and meet deadlines

  • Experience in a similar personal tax role within a practice

  • CTA qualification desirable but not essential

  • Knowledge of tax for GP practices, including preparation of partnership/partners’ tax returns, PCSE practice administration (estimates, type 1 & type 2 certificates) is advantageous
