Practice Accountant – Pontefract (West Yorkshire)

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

About the Role

  • Join a well-established, client-focused chartered accountancy firm based in Pontefract, offering a full range of services including audit, tax, payroll, management accounts, and business advisory.

  • Be part of a team that uses modern accounting and tax software to provide efficient, value-added advice.

  • Take ownership of a portfolio of SME clients, delivering statutory accounts, management accounts, tax, and advisory work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders

  • Produce management accounts, cash-flow forecasts, and financial reporting packs

  • Prepare and review corporate and personal tax computations

  • Provide bookkeeping support, including reconciliations and control account maintenance

  • Liaise closely with clients to understand their business challenges and provide practical, proactive advice

  • Support the adoption and use of cloud accounting and digital workflows (e.g., QuickBooks)

  • Assist with payroll and auto-enrolment services where required

  • Supervise or mentor more junior team members

  • Stay up to date with accounting standards, tax legislation, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and best practice

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Part-qualified (ACCA / ACA / Chartered Certified) or experienced by practice

  • Proven experience working in a practice-accountancy environment

  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting, tax, and management reporting

  • Experience using cloud accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks) is highly desirable

  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage a portfolio independently and maintain client relationships

  • Proactive, organised, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative practice
