About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, family-run chartered accountancy firm in Northallerton which delivers a full range of services including accounts preparation, tax planning, bookkeeping (cloud based), VAT returns, payroll, management accounts, cash flows and business plans. This Semi-Senior Accountant position is perfect for a part-qualified or newly qualified candidate seeking a varied, hands-on role with strong technical development and client exposure. Study support is available.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing annual accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships
Process and file VAT returns, and prepare self-assessment tax returns (including rental income/expenditure)
Support payroll processing (weekly wages, monthly salaries, auto-enrolment pension schemes)
Maintain bookkeeping services (including cloud-based bookkeeping), management accounts, and cash flow forecasting
Liaise with clients on accounting queries and compliance, supporting senior staff with advisory tasks
Help with tax planning activities and supporting periodic business reviews
Ideal Candidate Profile
AAT qualified or ACA/ACCA part-qualified with practice experience
Solid technical ability in accounts, VAT, payroll, bookkeeping, and tax compliance
Comfortable using accounting software (cloud-based tools preferred)
Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
Good interpersonal and communication skills; client-focussed mindset
Proactive, reliable, and keen to grow within a team
