About the Role
We’re representing a highly regarded and close-knit independent accountancy firm based in Pontefract, now seeking a dedicated Semi-Senior Accountant to join their friendly and supportive team. Key Responsibilities

Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies (FRS 102 & FRS 105)

Complete and submit self-assessment and corporation tax returns

Carry out bookkeeping and VAT return preparation using Excel cashbooks and QuickBooks

Process payroll accurately using Payroll Manager (Moneysoft)

Support and mentor apprentices and junior staff, offering training and day-to-day guidance

Liaise directly with clients, providing clear communication and practical support

Maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance and efficiency across all accounts

Work collaboratively within a small, friendly team to ensure high-quality service delivery
Ideal Candidate Profile

2–3+ years’ experience working in an accountancy practice

Proficient in Iris, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Sage One, Sage Line 50, Excel, and Word

Experience with Payroll Manager (Moneysoft) desirable

AAT qualified or qualified by experience (AAT study support available if required)

Strong all-round accounting knowledge, with experience across accounts prep, VAT, payroll, and tax

Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to manage multiple workloads efficiently

Team player with a proactive, approachable attitude and willingness to support others
