Senior Accountant – Middlesbrough (Teesside)

Location: Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire
Position Type: Full-time, Senior Accountant
Salary: £33,000 – £35,000 + bonuses (DOE)

The Role

  • Senior-level position combining hands-on accounting work with management responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Practice Manager and Director to support day-to-day operations, workflow planning, client management and process improvements

  • Supervise and mentor staff, contributing to team development and high-quality client service delivery

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review statutory accounts for SMEs, limited companies, partnerships and sole traders

  • Produce management accounts, VAT returns and corporation tax computations

  • Review and support the work of junior staff, offering ongoing training and guidance

  • Manage client relationships and act as a trusted point of contact

  • Support workflow management, onboarding processes and internal system improvements

  • Assist with business development activities and help drive long-term firm growth

  • Champion best practice across cloud-based accounting systems (Xero, QuickBooks, etc.)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • ACA/ACCA qualified, part qualified, studier or QBE

  • 3–5 years’ experience within an accountancy practice

  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, tax compliance and practice processes

  • Confident in reviewing work, mentoring colleagues and providing constructive feedback

  • Excellent organisational, communication and client-handling skills

  • Ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple deadlines

  • Proficient in cloud accounting platforms and digital workflow tools
