Salary: £18–£20 per hour (dependent on experience)
Hours: Part-Time (~24 hours/week, Full-Time considered for the right candidate)

About the Role

A well-established independent accounting practice in Reading is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join its team.

This role is ideal for candidates with 3+ years’ experience in practice bookkeeping, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. You will support the accounting team with client bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT and PAYE processing, and general administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arrange and manage client documents and bookkeeping information

  • Perform data entry and reconciliation of key accounts (bank, debtors, creditors, VAT, PAYE)

  • Review VAT transactions for accuracy and completeness

  • Complete and file VAT and PAYE returns

  • Correct accounting errors and post journal adjustments

  • Register clients for PAYE, government gateway, VAT, and pensions

  • Assist with other client administration tasks as required

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ bookkeeping experience in an accountancy practice

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, VAT, and PAYE

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills

  • Confident communicator with the ability to liaise with clients

  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office
